The FIMUCITÉ Film Scoring Academy (FSA) is a networking and educational event run by the Tenerife International Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ).  

On the 14th, 15th and 16th July, leading composers, performers and professionals from the audiovisual industry will share their experience through different masterclasses and ‘meet and greet’ talks. 

The Film Scoring Academy was established with the aim of bringing the world of music composition for the audiovisual sector closer to music students, professional musicians, industry professionals, and anyone interested in gaining first-hand insight into the work and careers of some of the festival’s esteemed guests. All activities are free to attend and offer participants a unique opportunity to discover the creative processes and experiences of industry professionals working in film and television music.

«Music composition for films and videogames»

Craig Stuart Garfinkle gives a masterclass on music composition for films and videogames at the Film Scoring Academy organized by FIMUCITÉ. Discover the methods, workflows and creative decisions that are made when creating award-winning scores for films and video games from an award-winning composer and respected university lecturer from universities such as the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

He will be discussing mixing techniques and strategies, sharing key insights on how to communicate with film directors, and providing an analysis of scores from video games and animated films.

Garfinkle is an award-winning composer who has been nominated for and won a range of prestigious awards, which include an Emmy Award, an Ivor Novello Award, an Animation Ireland Award, an IFTA, an ASCAP Composer’s Choice Award, and a Mark Award. He is known for his orchestral scores and for integrating electronic elements with a live orchestra. His work spans video games such as Bloodlines 2: Vampire the Masquerade, Baldur’s Gate II: Dark Alliance, World of Warcraft and Dungeons & Dragons, as well as animated feature films such as The Canterville Ghost, Niko, Beyond the Northern Lights and Two by Two: Overboard. Many of these works were composed in collaboration with his wife and creative partner, Eimear Noone.

«Meet and Greet with John Corigliano»

John Corigliano, winner of the Oscar for Best Original Score for The Red Violin, is one of the leading figures in contemporary music and one of the great symphony composers of our time.

His symphonic works include three seminal works, each conceived as a distinct universe.
Symphony No. 1 (1991), deeply influenced by the AIDS crisis, the composer transformed a personal experience of loss into a score of immense expressive power. This work has been widely performed across the globe, winning him the prestigious Grawemeyer Award.
Symphony No. 2 (2001), derived from his string quartet, earned him the Pulitzer Prize for Music.
Symphony No. 3: Circus Maximus (2004), an ambitious project conceived for a large wind ensemble, has enjoyed remarkable international popularity ever since its premiere.

«Meet and Greet with Stephen Warbeck»

Stephen Warbeck is a British composer renowned for his soundtracks for film, theatre and television. He studied music at the University of Bristol and began his career composing for theatre productions, particularly in collaboration with leading directors from the British stage.

He achieved international recognition with the soundtrack for the film Shakespeare in Love, for which he won the Oscar for Best Original Score in 1999. This work stood out for combining elegance, sensitivity and references to Renaissance music, adapted to a modern cinematic language.

Over the course of his career, he has composed music for numerous films, including Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, Charlotte Gray, Billy Elliot and Quills, in addition to an extensive body of work for theatre and television.
