The 20th edition of the Tenerife International Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ), which runs from 3rd - 19th July 2026, will be formally presented by the Cabildo de Tenerife and Turismo de Tenerife at FITUR 2026 thanks to it being a strategic project and a driver of cultural tourism for the island. The presentation will be attended by: the Vice-President and Councillor for Tourism of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Lope Afonso; the CEO of Turismo de Tenerife, Dimple Melwani; and Ana Molowny, FIMUCITÉ’s Executive Producer. The event takes place on Thursday 22nd January at IFEMA Madrid which falls under the 46th International Tourism Fair. During this event, the main highlights of this 20th anniversary edition will be unveiled.

Founded and directed by composer and conductor Diego Navarro, a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, FIMUCITÉ is the longest-running film music festival in the world and a leading international reference in its field. A fact being highlighted by the FITUR presentation. The presentation also underscores the festival’s role in strengthening Tenerife’s position as a top-tier cultural destination, capable of attracting international audiences and talent during key periods of the summer season.

The Vice-President of the Cabildo, Lope Afonso, emphasised the strength of the tourism–culture partnership as a strategic pillar for the island. He noted that Tenerife combines rich cultural expression with a distinctive lifestyle offering and outstanding gastronomy. Few destinations are able to offer visitors the opportunity to enjoy world-class music in marvelous venues like the Auditorio de Tenerife, or of the calibre of the resident symphony orchestra Orquestra Sinfónica de Tenerife (OST), as part of such a spectacular event like FIMUCITÉ. In reference to the festival’s creator, Afonso stated “Tenerife seeks to position itself as a destination that goes hand-in-hand with excellence and supports the talent of its professionals, such as Diego Navarro”.

For her part, Ana Molowny stressed that FIMUCITÉ “...has set trends and become a point of reference for other festivals in the sector”. She highlighted the prestige achieved by the event and its ability to bring together leading figures from the industry. She also underlined the importance of distinguishing the festival as a platform for promoting the genre through exclusive programmes. “We invite everyone to experience FIMUCITÉ first-hand,” she concluded.

Dimple Melwani, CEO of Turismo de Tenerife, remarked: “Today we are not only celebrating 20 years of a festival, we are celebrating a vision for the future. FIMUCITÉ is far more than a wonderful musical event: it is a strategic cultural project that connects creativity, identity and economic development. It is an initiative that places Tenerife firmly on the international map of major cultural destinations.”

Melwani further emphasised that film music has a unique power, stating it is capable of moving audiences, bridging the generational divide, and transcending borders. When such music is performed in a place like Tenerife—diverse, inspiring and internationally recognised—it becomes a powerful tool for tourism and global projection. “Our objective is clear: to consolidate FIMUCITÉ as one of Europe’s leading film music festivals and to establish it as a symbol of a creative Tenerife, a destination that is open to the world, and yet firmly rooted in its strong cultural identity,” she added.

Each July, the festival transforms the island into a hub for enthusiasts, audiovisual industry professionals and visitors from multiple international markets. In doing so, FIMUCITÉ enriches the island’s cultural and leisure offerings, diversifies visitor profiles and reinforces Tenerife’s positioning as a venue for major events linked to cinema, music and international productions. Each of these facets mean the festival is strongly aligned with the strategies of Turismo de Tenerife.

FIMUCITÉ has established itself as an international benchmark thanks to the elite quality of its artists and programming and its close ties with the film industry. Serving as an ambassador for Canarian talent and for the festival itself as he takes to stages around the world,  Diego Navarro continues to strengthen the connection between Tenerife and the big screen.

Special anniversary edition
The 20th edition of FIMUCITÉ presents a monumental red carpet programme. This event brings together some of the most celebrated film scores in history, with particular focus on works nominated for or awarded an Academy Award.

On Thursday 16th July, the Auditorio de Tenerife symphony hall will host the Spanish premiere of John Williams Reimagined, a recital produced and narrated by renowned film music producer Robert Townson. The concert offers an intimate perspective on the work of the most Oscar-nominated composer in history. Featuring arrangements by Simone Pedroni and performances alongside Sara Andon (flute) and Cecilia Chan (cello), the programme will include music from Schindler’s List, Memoirs of a Geisha, Harry Potter and Hook, with the endorsement of John Williams himself.

On Friday 17th and Saturday 18th July, the festival will present Star Wars: A New Hope in Concert, made possible through an exclusive licence from Disney—an important milestone for the festival. The Tenerife Symphony Orchestra (OST) will offer a live-to-picture performance of John Williams’ iconic score during the screening of the original 1977 film. The concert will be conducted by Irish composer Eímear Noone, a trailblazer who conducted the orchestra at the 2020 Academy Awards ceremony.

The grand finale of the 20th anniversary will take place on Sunday 19th July with the FIMUCITÉ 20 Red Carpet Gala. Performed by the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra (OST) and the Tenerife Film Choir, and conducted by Diego Navarro, the concert will offer a compelling journey through major Oscar-nominated and award-winning scores. The programme will include masterpieces from films such as The Wizard of Oz, Ben-Hur, Lawrence of Arabia, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Chariots of Fire, Dances with Wolves, Titanic, The English Patient and Dune, among others.

The festival programme will be complemented by open-air concerts and activities, including the much-anticipated new show by the Pop Culture Band—the festival’s resident pop-rock ensemble under the musical direction of Gonzalo de Araoz. Organisers will also be offering a new edition of the FIMUCITÉ Film Scoring Academy (FSA), an initiative that brings together leading industry professionals and guest composers for a series of masterclasses and round-table discussions that are open to both the public and students.
