John Corigliano, Oscar award-winning composer of soundtrack for ‘the red violin’, joins the FIMUCITÉ 20 guests of honour list
Friday, 22 May 2026- The New York-based composer, recipient of an Academy Award, the Pulitzer Prize and multiple Grammy Awards, will participate in a film music festival for the first time — and he has chosen the Tenerife International Film Music Festival to do so.
- The iconic Chaconne for Violin and Orchestra from his Academy Award-winning score for The Red Violin will be performed on 19th July at the festival’s closing event, the FIMUCITÉ 20 Red Carpet Gala.
The Tenerife International Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ) is proud to welcome John Corigliano as its Guest of Honour for the 20th anniversary edition. The prestige of the festival is recognised by the attendance of such an esteemed guest. His participation in the FIMUCITÉ 20 marks the first time the American composer has attended a film music festival, making this a particularly significant occasion for FIMUCITÉ, the world’s longest-running continuously held festival of its kind.
Corigliano’s participation follows our previous announcement confirming the attendance of British composer Stephen Warbeck, Academy Award winner for Shakespeare in Love. With these two internationally renowned composers joining the programme, FIMUCITÉ’s 20th anniversary will bring together two leading creative figures whose presence highlights both the artistic importance and growing international reach of the festival.
Awarded the Academy Award for his unforgettable score for François Girard’s The Red Violin (1998), Corigliano also received the prestigious Pulitzer Prize for Music in 2001 for his Symphony No. 2 for String Orchestra, in addition to five Grammy Awards, and is widely regarded as one of the defining figures of contemporary music. His creative output spans symphonic and operatic repertoire as well as composition for film, resulting in a body of work of remarkable stylistic breadth and powerful expressive depth.
As part of this tribute, FIMUCITÉ will present the Spanish premiere of Corigliano’s celebrated Chaconne for Violin and Orchestra from the film The Red Violin during the closing concert, FIMUCITÉ 20 Red Carpet Gala, which will take place on 19th July at 7:00 p.m. in the Symphony Hall of the Auditorio de Tenerife. The concert will be conducted by composer and conductor Diego Navarro, founder and director of FIMUCITÉ, leading the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra (OST).
In addition, both John Corigliano and Stephen Warbeck will take part in the programme of the FIMUCITÉ Film Scoring Academy, one of the festival’s most eagerly anticipated parallel events, featuring a programme of masterclasses and round-table discussions open to the general public.
