The Festival Internacional de Música de Cine de Tenerife (FIMUCITÉ) Is celebrating the success of its eighteenth edition after finishing up with a spectacular closing concert that put the finishing touch to an unforgettable program of concerts and parallel activities centred around musicals and their film adaptations. The Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife, under the baton of conductor and Festival founder Diego Navarro, exceeded all expectations and the soloists' performances received over fifteen standing ovations from the audience, something unprecedented in the history of the Auditorio de Tenerife.

The impeccable performances of Cristina Ramos, Fran León, Néstor Galván, Héctor Quintero Carmen Acosta and the rest of the vocalists as they performed legendary songs from musicals such as 'The Phantom of the Opera', 'West Side Story', 'Les Miserables' , 'Singin' in the Rain' or 'The Greatest Showman', a World Premiere, received energetic and heartfelt applause from the audience, which included critics, specialist press, industry professionals and notable international guests.

This concert was the perfect complement to the 'La La Land Live-to-picture' show that the Auditorio de Tenerife itself hosted the day before, with the masterful performance of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife, conducted by Justin Hurwitz, composer of the Oscar-winning music of the musical film by Damien Chazelle, in sync with the screening of the film. Long queues to get the vinyl of the soundtrack signed by the composer led to all stock completely selling out.

In addition, FIMUCITÉ 18 broke its own ticket sale record, with all seats for all concerts sold out weeks in advance, confirming the interest and confidence in the offerings of FIMUCITÉ, which each year offers a range of original productions, vibrant shows and world premieres of compositions from great film soundtracks, with the participation of talented musicians and singers.

In the words of Diego Navarro: “The 18th edition of Fimucité will live on in our memory forever. It has been, without a doubt and judging by numerous tangible elements, a milestone in the history of the oldest film music festival in the world. The overwhelming response from our audience, which helped us sell out each and every one of our concerts and parallel activities weeks before the kick-off, has been overwhelming. The demand was such that we could have repeated the concerts in our different stage spaces and they would have sold out all over again. The magic, happiness and enthusiasm felt in each event culminated in a closing gala that is also unparalleled in any held since the first edition in 2007. There were 15 standing ovations, some lasting more than six minutes, in one single concert. Without a doubt, this has been a phenomenon, an artistic milestone not only for FIMUCITÉ, but also for the Auditorio and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife, one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Bettering this is going to be very difficult. Even so, we will continue trying to fulfill a million dreams. As the real P. T. Barnum, the protagonist of The Greatest Showman, said: 'the noblest art is that of making others happy'. I think this year we did just that!”

Over 8,000 people enjoyed the four concerts scheduled at the Teatro Leal in La Laguna, the Teatro Guimerá in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and the Auditorio de Tenerife, as well as the free, open-air performance that took place in Plaza de España in Tenerife's capital and the parallel activities. The summer film screenings, which took place the first weekend of July in the Plaza de Residencial Anaga in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, were full to the brim with audiences of all ages who enjoyed 'Mamma Mia!', 'West Side Story' and 'The Phantom of the Opera', in an idyllic setting.

The Festival Internacional de Música de Cine de Tenerife (FIMUCITÉ), the oldest in the world dedicated to soundtracks and music for the screen, is directed by composer and conductor Diego Navarro, and has as its main sponsor Cabildo de Tenerife and Turismo de Tenerife, the government of Canarias via Turismo de Tenerife and the Instituto Canario de Desarollo Cultural, along with the councils of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and San Cristóbal de La Laguna. In addition, FIMUCITÉ would like to thank the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife and the Auditorio de Tenerife for their implication, and the special collaboration of Fundación Disa, Emmasa, Fundación SGAE, Fundación CajaCanarias, the Festival de Cine Fantástico de Canarias Ciudad de La Laguna Isla Calavera Domingo Alonso and AUDI, as the official Festival car, and Fundación Diario de Avisos, the Grupo Plató del Atlántico and Televisión Canaria as main media partners.
