Santa Cruz de Tenerife becomes the city of stars and dreams in the final stretch of Fimucité 18

- This 19th and 20th of July, Auditorio de Tenerife will host the grand symphonic concerts of the eighteenth edition of the Festival Internacional de Música de Cine de Tenerife.

- Oscar-winning composer Justin Hurwitz and Diego Navarro, founder of the festival, will helm the Orquesta Sinfónica in concerts ‘La La Land Live-to-picture’ and ‘A Million Dreams’.

The Festival Internacional de Música de Cine de Tenerife (FIMUCITÉ), the oldest event of the genre in the world, founded and directed by composer and conductor Diego Navarro, closes its eighteenth edition, dedicated to musicals, this weekend at the Auditorio de Tenerife Auditorium, with two great symphonic concerts that have been sold out” for weeks.

This Friday, July 19th, Justin Hurwitz, composer of the music for the film 'La La Land', for which he won two Oscars for Best Score and Best Original Song ('City of Stars', award shared with Benj Pasek and Justin Paul), will conduct the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife as they perform the score in perfect synchronisation with the images, dialogue and sound effects of the film. A new “live-to-picture” experience, after the success in past editions of FIMUCITÉ of the concerts dedicated to 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' and 'Bram Stoker's Dracula'. The orchestra will be accompanied on stage by a jazz band composed of ten musicians, among whom is the extraordinary pianist Polo Ortí, the main soloist of this concert.

Directed by Damien Chazelle, 'La La Land' combines the love of music and film in a modern musical set in Los Angeles. Starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, it tells the story of aspiring actress Mia and jazz musician Sebastian, who meet and fall in love in the “City of Stars.” Hurwitz composed the music on piano and then orchestrated it for 95 musicians, creating a lush, richly textured sound, reminiscent of classic Hollywood musicals.

The grand finale of FIMUCITÉ 18 will take place this Saturday, July 20th, at 7:00 p.m., with an extraordinary journey through the best musicals in history and their film adaptations under the direction of Diego Navarro. The 'A Million Dreams' program will explore monumental scores and host world premieres of symphonic arrangements of films such as 'A Chorus Line', 'The Wizard of Oz' and 'The Greatest Showman'. In addition, pieces from other emblematic musicals will be played, such as 'An American in Paris', 'Singin' in the Rain', 'My Fair Lady', 'The Phantom of the Opera', 'West Side Story' and 'Les Miserables'.

On this occasion, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife will be accompanied by a pop rock ensemble and the participation of top-level Canarian soloists, such as Cristina Ramos, Carmen Acosta, Néstor Galván and Fran León, among others. An invitation to imagine "a million dreams", as Hugh Jackman, Ziv Zaifman and Michelle Williams sang in the musical 'The Greatest Showman' (2017), based on the true story of visionary Phineas Taylor Barnum.

FIMUCITÉ will thus put the finishing touch to a glorious edition, with all the tickets sold for its musical shows held at the Teatro Leal in La Laguna, the Teatro Guimerá in Santa Cruz and the Auditorio de Tenerife, and also enjoying great success in its parallel activities of summer cinema, masterclasses and round tables.
