The Festival Internacional de Música de Cine de Tenerife (FIMUCITÉ), which, until July 20th, is celebrating its 18th edition, with the support, as maximum sponsor, of the Cabildo de Tenerife and Turismo de Tenerife, Gobierno de Canarias via Turismo de Canarias and the Instituto Canario de Desarrollo Cultural, and the town councils of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and San Cristóbal de La Laguna, unveils this week a new course of the FIMUCITÉ Film Scoring Academy.

Attendance is free of charge and can be validated for an academic credit of your choice, upon registration on the www.fimucite.com website.

After the inaugural conference by composer and conductor Diego Navarro, founder of FIMUCITÉ, which took place on June 24th at the University of La Laguna, on July the 16th, 17th and 18th, the Espacio Cultural CajaCanarias, located in Santa Cruz of Tenerife, will host five sessions in which expert voices will share, first-hand, tales of their career and experience, as well as their knowledge about the history of the musical.

On Tuesday, July 16th, starting at 6:00 p.m., the master class “Composing for the Stage or Staging for the Music?” will take place, delivered by Leandro A. Martin, composer and teacher and researcher of Didactics of Musical Expression at the ULL. He has premiered works and given conferences in Germany, Cuba, Italy, Argentina, Spain, England, among other countries.

On Wednesday, July 17th, a double session is planned that will begin at 4:30 p.m. with the presentation “Cabaret, a Modern Classic,” given by Isabel Castells Molina, Professor of the subject “Literature and Cinema.” at ULL, who has dealt with the relationships between both disciplines in articles, books and conferences. A specialist in the genre, she will offer further insight into Bob Fosse's film, through its musical numbers, paying special attention to the narrative function of the songs and choreographies, which illustrate the evolution of the characters and the plot itself.

The day will continue at 6:00 p.m. with the participation of Andy Hill, who has thirty-five years of experience in the film music industry and will give the master class “What Film Composers can Learn from Songwriters”. He is currently Director of the M.F.A. (Master in Fine Arts) program in Music for Film and Contemporary Media at the Film Scoring Academy of Europe. Hill will make a journey through standards of musical theatre and its film adaptations, from “You'll Never Walk Alone”, “My Favorite Things” and “Maria” to “Send In The Clowns” and “Memory”, to discover that, “even in a time when melody does not seem to be the cornerstone of film music, a good motif and a set of catchy chords can still go a long way.”

The programme scheduled for Thursday, July 18th will begin at 4:30 p.m. with “The Evolution of the Musical”, a presentation by the creator of specialist website Love4musicals.com, Paco Dolz. As an expert and commentator of the genre, he will remind us of the most legendary musicals in the history of cinema, that can then be enjoyed live at the great Closing Symphonic Concert 'A Million Dreams', which will take place on Saturday July 20th at the Auditorio de Tenerife under the direction of Diego Navarro.

The final touch to the FIMUCITÉ Film Scoring Academy 2024 sessions will, starting at 6:00 p.m., be a round table with Justin Hurwitz, Paco Dolz and Robert Townson, one of the most prolific producers of film music in the world. Film and music lovers alike are invited to take part in this special event where they will have the opportunity to delve into the fascinating world of musical composition for film, focusing on hit film 'La La Land'. Moderated by Gorka Oteiza, founder and director of the digital medium SoundTrackFest, it will be an exclusive meeting, the perfect complement to enjoy the “Live to Picture” experience of 'La La Land in Concert' on Friday, July 19th, within the program of the festival.
