- This Friday and Saturday, the Auditorio de Tenerife hosts the great symphonic concerts of the 17th edition of the Festival Internacional de Música de Cine de Tenerife, dedicated to the soundtracks of emblematic characters such as Superman, Batman, Spider-Man or The Avengers.
- Among the guests are the acclaimed Tyler Bates, the go-to composer for James Gunn and Zack Snyder, and Emmy Award winner Lolita Ritmanis, composer of 'Batman: The Killing Joke'.
The Festival Internacional de Música de Cine de Tenerife (FIMUCITÉ), the oldest event specialized in soundtracks in the world, concludes its 17th edition this weekend with two long-awaited musical events dedicated to to the universe of comic book heroes and villains and their adaptations to film and television. The fabulous Tyler Bates, composer of the scores for '300' or 'Guardians of the Galaxy', and Lolita Ritmanis, composer of the music for animated films 'Batman: The Killing Joke' or 'The Justice League', are already in the Canary Islands to take part in original programs 'Excelsior: The Stan Lee Legacy' and 'Dioses y Detectives', which will take place at the Auditorio de Tenerife and will be performed by the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife, the Tenerife Film Choir and the Coro Polifónico de la Universidad de La Laguna.
This Friday, July 14th, at 8:00 p.m., the concert 'Excelsior: The Stan Lee Legacy' will offer a journey through the great soundtracks of the legendary Marvel comic book publisher's works adapted for movies and television. It will be an original and unique recital, in which numerous pieces will be performed for the first time ever worldwide, such as the expressly prepared music from the film 'Werewolf by Night', composed by Michael Giacchino, who also directed the film. Danny Elfman's iconic score for Sam Raimi's 'Spider-man' and its sequel; 'The Incredible Hulk', 'X-Men', 'Black Panther', 'The Avengers', 'Captain America: The First Avenger' or 'Guardians of the Galaxy', among others, will also enchant the audience.
The concert will be given by guest conductor Salvador Vázquez and will feature the participation of Tyler Bates, a regular collaborator of James Gunn and Zack Snyder. Lola and Sami Bates will also participate as solo vocalists, as well as drummer Greg Ellis, whose performances have been part of more than 200 film, television and video game soundtracks, including '300', 'Iron Man', 'Guardians of the Galaxy ' or 'Assassin's Creed'. Ellis returns to FIMUCITÉ after his unforgettable appearance at the previous edition.
Closing Concert
The finishing touch to this edition of FIMUCITÉ will be on Saturday, July 15th, at 7:30 p.m., with the concert 'Dioses y Detectives', based around the adaptations of DC Comics, under the direction of maestro Diego Navarro, a composer and conductor specialized in film music and founder of FIMUCITÉ.
The program covers the scores that have accompanied superheroes such as Superman and Batman, villains like the Joker, and other characters from the noir genre, such as Dick Tracy or The Crow, on the big screen. Highlights of this concert include the performance of the score from 'The Batman', by Michael Giacchino, and the suite from legendary film '300', by Tyler Bates. Other titles such as 'Man of Steel', 'Superman' or 'Rocketeer' will also be performed.
In addition, we will host the world premiere of the score for 'Batman: The Killing Joke', in the presence of its composer Lolita Ritmanis, who returns to the Festival, accompanied by Michael McCuistion and Kristopher Carter, with whom she has written the music for numerous films Marvel and DC animations, such as 'Batman Beyond', under the Dynamic Music Partners label.
Tyler Bates, Lola and Sami Bates and Greg Ellis will once again take the stage, as well as guest soloists from the Canary Islands, Fran León and Esther Ovejero.
World Premieres
Each show will be original and unique, in which numerous pieces will be performed for the first time ever worldwide, with the World Concert Premiere of the soundtracks for 'Watchmen' and 'Deadpool 2', composed by Tyler Bates; 'The Incredible Hulk', by Joe Harnell; 'Werewolf by Night', by Michael Giacchino; 'X-Men' (Shuky Levi), 'Batman: The Killing Joke' (Lolita Ritmanis, Michael McCuistion and Kristopher Carter) and the animated series 'What If?' (Laura Karpmann). In addition to this, new arrangements of “Guardians Of The Galaxy” and “300” will also premiere worldwide.
Spanish Audiovisual Music Awards
Friday's concert will begin with the official presentation of the 6th Spanish Audiovisual Music Awards, which FIMUCITÉ has hosted since these awards, granted by the Asociación de Compositores de Música para Audiovisual, MUSIMAGEN, were founded. During the ceremony, a suite dedicated to the winning works will be performed and the attending authors will collect the awards.
In this sixth edition of the awards, those been recognized in their respective categories are: Iván Palomares, for 'Las Niñas de Cristal' (Best Original Score for a Fiction Feature Film); Pablo Cervantes, for 'A las Mujeres de España: María Lejárraga' (Best Original Music for a Documentary) and for 'Heridas' (Best Original Music for a Series); Alberto Torres, for 'La Entrega' (Best Original Music for a Short Film); Manel Gil-Inglada, for 'Endling, Extinction is Forever' (Best Original Music for Video Games); and Dani Trujillo,
