- With every concert a sell-out, audiences were able to enjoy one-off experiences devoted to music created for cinema, TV and videogames in an exciting and diverse programme.
- Juanma Bajo Ulloa and composer Koldo Uriarte picked up the Spanish Audiovisual Music Award for Best Original Orchestral Score, given by Asociación Musimagen, for the score for film 'Baby'.
With all tickets sold for all seven concerts celebrated as a result of its 15th Edition, the Festival Internacional de Música de Cine de Tenerife (FIMUCITÉ), directed by renowned composer and orchestra conductor Diego Navarro, met with unconditional acclaim from its faithful attendees, new visitors, critics and professionals alike. The new term of the FIMUCITÉ Film Scoring Academy, alongside the screening programme for FIMUCINEMA, the Festival´s Official Competition Section, and the 'Sound of the Spaghetti Western' season, organised in collaboration with Filmoteca Canaria, put the finishing touches to a week devoted to the audiovisual music that consolidates the celebration of this event, of international prestige, on the island of Tenerife.
In the words of Diego Navarro: "That we have been able to keep this 15th Anniversary Edition of FIMUCITÉ up and running, in a second pandemic year, has been thanks to the heroic efforts of all the staff of the festival. I would like to publicly thank each and every one of the members of this FIMUCITÉ family for the incredible work they have carried out. I couldn´t be prouder of what we´ve achieved this year. The edition with the most concerts ever held in our programme´s history, seven in total, on top of the numerous parallel activities that have taken place. On a personal note, to have been able to programme and conduct both symphonic galas focussed on the work of the Maestro Ennio Morricone has been a dream come true. His music is in my DNA as a composer, and I couldn´t be more satisfied with both performances at the head of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife and the Tenerife Film Choir. Throughout the history of the Festival, we have overcome numerous challenges. Not even the pandemic has been able to defeat what is now the longest-running international film music festival in Europe. I hope, with all of my heart, that this event remains a mainstay in its field for many years more".
For the fourth year running, FIMUCITÉ hosted the ceremony for the Spanish Audiovisual Music Awards given by the Asociación de Compositores de Música para Audiovisual (Musimagen), which, this year, has recognised Koldo Uriarte and Bingen Mendizábal, for Best Original Orchestral Score, as composers of the score for 'Baby', by Juanma Bajo Ulloa. The Basque producer, screenwriter and director, who won the Goya award for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay in 1992 for 'Alas de mariposa', received the award in the Auditorio de Tenerife, alongside composer Koldo Uriarte and actress Natalia Ruíz.
The Award for Best Original Electroacoustic Score went to Darío Palomo, for his work on documentary 'Emilio Herrera'. In the category of Best Original Score for Series, the award was presented to Sergio Jiménez Lacima, for 'El Desafío: ETA'. And finally, in the category of Best Original Score for Advertising, the winner was Daniel Trujillo, for 'Allianz'.

Music and film critic Miguel Ángel Ordóñez, founder, in 2005, and director of specialist soundtrack website Scoremagacine.com, received the FIMUCITÉ – Antón García Abril Award 2021 in recognition of his career. An unrivalled expert in the life and works of Antón García Abril, Ordóñez collaborated in this present edition of FIMUCITÉ as an advisor and programmer of the choral concert dedicated to the composer.
Additionally, FIMUCITÉ celebrated a new edition of the Official Competition Section FIMUCINEMA, which saw the participation of 4 feature-length fictional movies, 5 documentaries and 19 short films. The Fimucinema Alex North Award to Best Original Score for 2021 went to Marvin Miller and Ralf Wengenmayr, for 'Jim Knopf und Die Wilde 13', "a score that submerges us in a fantastical journey through the universe of Michael Ende". Josué Vergara received the award to Best Original Score (Documentary) for 'Out of the Blue'.
In Short Film, the Fimucinema Award to Best Original Score went to Saba Alizâdeh, for 'Navozande, le musicien'; whereas the Fimucinema Award for Best Original Song went to Marín Moore, for 'El Baile del Estornino'.
Founded in 2006, all editions throughout this decade and a half of FIMUCITÉ have been characterised by excellence and have submerged their audiences in an extraordinary voyage through classic film music and contemporary productions of the most relevant works in the audiovisual field with great success from the first edition, with the performance of the symphonic score for 'The Matrix'; the Biomechanical Symphony of 'Alien' in the third edition; the concert dedicated to John Williams and Steven Spielberg; the celebration of Universal Pictures´ centenary; the tenth edition, dedicated to Howard Shore; or this most recent edition, in memory of Ennio Morricone and Antón García Abril. The "live-to-picture" concerts of 'Bram Stoker´s Dracula' and 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind', as well as 'We Are the Resistance: Money Heist in Concert', have been other key moments in the Festival´s history.
Amongst others, we have welcomed guest conductors and composers of the stature of Don Davis, Sean Callery, Mychael Danna, Mark Snow, Joel McNeely, Bruno Coulais, Patrick Doyle, Shigeru Umebayashi, Jan A.P. Kaczmarek, Elliot Goldenthal, Marco Beltrami, Paul Williams, Fabio Frizzi, Trevor Jones, Laura Karpman, Christopher Young, Bruce Broughton, Eímear Noone, Antón García Abril himself, who passed away last March, or Oscar winner Howard Shore; as well as other important industry figures such as Doreen Ringer (BMI), Michael Todd (ASCAP) Eric Polin (Universal Pictures), Robert Townson, Robert Piaskowski and Agata Grabowiecka, from the Krakow Film Music Festival, who have a wonderful kinship with FIMUCITÉ, to name but a few.
The Festival Internacional de Música de Cine de Tenerife celebrated the special 15th Anniversary Edition with the support of Cabildo de Tenerife, Gobierno de Canarias, Ayuntamiento de San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Ayuntamiento de Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Auditorio de Tenerife and Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife, as well as Fundación "la Caixa", Fundación Disa, Fundación SGAE and Radiotelevisión Canaria.
