The Festival Internacional de Música de Cine de Tenerife (FIMUCITÉ), a global benchmark in its genre, celebrates its 18th edition from July 5th to July 20th with the support of the Cabildo de Tenerife as its main sponsor. Tenerife and Turismo de Tenerife, the Government of Canarias via Turismo de Canarias and the Instituto Canario de Desarrollo Cultural and the town councils of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and San Cristóbal de La Laguna.
After the success of the two previous editions, FIMUCITÉ unveils its summer cinema this weekend, which kicks off the festival program with three iconic titles of the musical genre: 'Mamma Mia!', 'West Side Story' and 'The Phantom of the Opera'.
This cultural offering for all the family, which has the collaboration of the Ayuntamiento de Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Distrito Centro-Ifara, Fundación Disa and distributor ARVI, will take place this year in the Residencial Anaga square in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The screenings, with free access until capacity is reached, will take place on July 5th, 6th and 7th, starting at 8:00 p.m.
This Friday the 5th, the FIMUCITÉ summer cinema begins with 'Mamma Mia!' (2008), a film directed by Phyllida Lloyd based on the musical inspired by songs by the group ABBA. It stars Meryl Streep in the role of Donna Sheridan, a single mother and owner of a small hotel on a Greek island paradise. Amanda Seyfried plays her daughter, Sophie, who invites three men with whom her mother had an affair in the past to her wedding.
Saturday will see the screening of 'West Side Story' (1961), a romantic drama by Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins set in New York, and a film adaptation of the 1957 Broadway musical. It won ten Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Score, with music composed by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.
On Sunday, the summer film series will close with the screening of the spectacular staging of 'The Phantom of the Opera' that took place at the Royal Albert Hall in London to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical. A production by Cameron Mackintosh, inspired by the original set by Hal Prince and Gillian Lynne, with a cast and orchestra of over 200 performers and several very special guest performances.
FIMUCITÉ will continue next week with its concert program, which will begin on Friday, July 12th, at the Teatro Leal in La Laguna, with the show 'FIMUCITÉ Cabaret', and will continue on Saturday, the 13th, at the Teatro Guimerá in Santa Cruz de Tenerife with 'Don't Stop Believing', by the Pop Culture Band.
