FIMUCITÉ 15 unveils its poster and the programme for the Morricone Tribute Concert

- The official poster of the 15th Festival Internacional de Música de Cine de Tenerife references the filmographies to both composers celebrated in this edition: Ennio Morricone and Antón García Abril.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 26th August, 2021.- The Festival Internacional de Música de Cine de Tenerife (FIMUCITÉ), which celebrates its 15th anniversary from September 17th to 26th, with the support of Cabildo de Tenerife, Gobierno de Canarias and the councils of San Cristóbal de La Laguna and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, amongst others, is unveiling its official poster, by artist Guillermo de la Peña. The illustration references both composers to whom this year´s Festival pays tribute, Ennio Morricone and Antón García Abril, via the inclusion of stills from films scored by the Italian composer, such as “Once Upon a Time in the West”, “Cinema Paradiso” or “The Mission”, accompanied by the unforgettable Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente and his classic television show ‘El hombre y la tierra’, scored by García Abril.

Both Ennio Morricone and Antón Garcia Abril are musical references in the world of Film and TV, having composed countless, unmistakable scores. Morricone passed away in July 2020, and García Abril left us this March. Both leave behind an enormous musical legacy, to which FIMUCITÉ pays tribute this year.

The Auditorio de Tenerife will hold two performances of the concert ‘Once Upon Ennio Morricone: A Tribute to his Film Music’, on the 24th and 25th of September (at 8pm and 7pm, respectively). The Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife, accompanied by Soprano Carmen Acosta and the Tenerife Film Choir, led by Juan Ramón Vinagre, all conducted by renowned composer and conductor Diego Navarro, director of FIMUCITÉ, will perform a repertoire that will launch the audience on a whirlwind trip through the history of cinema itself.

Both performances will begin with “The Untouchables”, Morricone´s memorable collaboration with American director Brian De Palma, which obtained one of the six Oscar nominations the film received. We will also hear the scores of Giuseppe Tornatore´s ‘Cinema Paradiso’ or ‘Everybody´s Fine’, ‘Novecento’, Bertolucci´s masterpiece, and Roland Joffé´s unforgettable historical drama ‘The Mission’ and Sergio Leone´s classic Western ‘Once Upon A Time in the West’.

The programme has been developed in cooperation with the prestigious Europäische Filmphilharmonie, under the creative direction of Fernando Carmena, with Alexander De Tey and Corina Ciuplea-Turcan as score supervisors, Beate Warkentien as vice-director of Production and Strategy and Ekkehard Jung as director general. All transcriptions and arrangements are by Olav Lervik, Marco Jovic, William Ross, Henry Mancini, Fabio Guiran and Rachel Berlin. Scores courtesy of Editions Salabert, Sony Music Publishing, Creazioni Artistiche Musicali S.r.l. (C.A.M. S.r.l.) and Hal Leonard LCC.
