The 11th edition of the Tenerife International Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ) will be devoted to the sword and sorcery genre of film music. The event will be held from September 22nd to 30th, 2017. The details of this new edition were revealed last Thursday, December 15th in the press conference that took place at TEA - Tenerife Espacio de las Artes, with the participation of the director of Culture of Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, José Luis Rivero; the deputy minister of Culture for the Canary Islands Government, Aurelio González; the Arona councillor for Culture, Leopoldo Díaz; the director of Televisión Española in the Canaries, Domingo Álvarez, and the director of FIMUCITÉ, Diego Navarro, who announced that the first confirmed guest will be Trevor Jones, composer of the scores from the films 'The Last of the Mohicans' or 'Excalibur', among others.
José Luis Rivero highlighted, during the presentation, the importance of the festival during its ten editions and wished the next decade to be equally successful. He reminded that the tickets for the september 29th concert are already on sale at the box office of the Auditorium and that “give culture could be a wonderful Christmas present”. He also thanked the public and private institutions that collaborate with this festival. FIMUCITÉ is sponsored by Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, the Canary Islands Government, and Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Arona City Councils.
The deputy minister of Culture for the Canary Islands Government, Aurelio González, referred to the power of film music and to what it can transmit and showed his availability to keep supporting the festival in the future.
Diego Navarro, director of FIMUCITÉ, announced the name of the first guest composer: Trevor Jones. Navarro thanked all the people involved in the festival and reminded that, as in previous years, the festival will be held at several venues, such as the Guimerá Theater in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the Infanta Leonor Auditorium in Los Cristianos and the venue Auditorio de Tenerife Adán Martín. Also, FIMUCINEMA, will continue taking place at TEA - Tenerife Espacio de las Artes.
Domingo Álvarez pointed out that the commitment TVE has towards the festival is a “sincere commitment”. “We are collaborators and transmitters of everything happening in FIMUCITÉ”, added the director of Televisión Española in the Canaries, who also stated that “FIMUCITÉ is synonymous with success”.
Leopoldo Díaz also congratulated the director of the Festival and gave him his support. “The idea is to consolidate this festival in the south of the island, being its headquarters in Arona”.
In this eleventh year, film music lovers will enjoy a varied and noteworthy program, featuring the fantasy subgenre film scores.This will be the leitmotiv of the concert 'Sword & Sorcery: Symphonic Chronicles of a Legendary Era', which will be held at the venue Auditorio de Tenerife Adán Martín on September 29th. The Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife and the Tenerife Film Choir will perform some classic scores on their 35th anniversary such as 'Conan the Barbarian', 'The Dark Crystal', 'The Beastmaster', and 'The Sword and the Sorcerer', with music by Basil Poledouris, Trevor Jones, Lee Holdridge, and David Whitaker, respectively, and which will be joined by other key sword and sorcery films.
