Australian composer and singer Lisa Gerrard and speaker Nestor F. Marqués among the lecturers at the 19th FIMUCITÉ Film Music Academy

- Registration is now open for the FIMUCITÉ Film Scoring Academy's programme of masterclasses, roundtable discussions, and workshops, valid for one ECTS academic credit.
- It will be held at Espacio Mutua Tinerfeña in La Laguna on July 1st and 4th, and at Espacio Cultural CajaCanarias in Santa Cruz de Tenerife on July 8th, 9th, 10th, and 12th.

On July 1st, the 19th edition of FIMUCITÉ starts its programme for the FIMUCITÉ Film Scoring Academy (FFSA), which is held each year at the same time as the concert events at the Festival Internacional de Música de Cine de Tenerife, in its commitment to specialised training in the creation of music for the screen. Under the academic direction of Professor Débora Madrid Brito, of the Department of Fine Arts at the University of La Laguna (ULL), it was conceived as a university extension course, combining expository masterclasses with interactive roundtables and participatory workshops. Beyond addressing the phenomenon of music for the screen by focusing on the analysis of the Gladiator phenomenon, in this edition we will attempt to contextualize the historical era in which the film is set. Of course, music for Italian cinema will also be a focus of the FFSA.

Free registration is now open for this event, which will be held at the Espacio Mutua Tinerfeña in La Laguna on July 1st and 4th, and at the Espacio Cultural CajaCanarias in Santa Cruz de Tenerife on July 8th, 9th, 10th, and 12th. It will feature prominent speakers such as singer-songwriter Lisa Gerrard, who will take to the stage at the Auditorio de Tenerife on July 11th and 12th to participate in the concert "Gladiator in Concert."

On Tuesday, July 1st, festival director Diego Navarro will offer the opening talk, "Gladiator: Celebrating 25 Years of a Masterpiece of Epic-Historical Cinema Through Its Music," while ULL professor José Delgado Delgado will give a lecture on the context of Ridley Scott's film Gladiator (2000). On Friday, July 4th, there will be a screening of the documentary Ennio (2021), directed by Giuseppe Tornatore, a comprehensive portrait of the most popular and prolific film composer of the 20th century, a two-time Oscar winner and composer of over 500 unforgettable scores. This event will be accompanied by a pre-screening presentation by Diego Navarro and Marco Patrignani, directors of FIMUCITÉ and the Roma Film Music Festival, respectively.

At the Espacio Cultural CajaCanarias, ULL professor Gonzalo Pavés Borges will speak on Tuesday, July 8th, about Italian Neorealism, a cinematic movement that emerged after World War II.

On Wednesday, the 9th, prestigious Italian film music critic Massimo Privitera will explore Italian film music composers; while composer Luis Ivars will give a talk on copyright and artificial intelligence.

On Thursday, July 10th, Lisa Gerrard, co-author of the Gladiator soundtrack, will discuss the creative musical process behind this landmark blockbuster, alongside renowned Hollywood film music producer Robert Townson.

And to close out the FIMUCITÉ Film Scoring Academy 2025 programme, on the morning of Saturday, July 12th, popular Segovian archaeologist, speaker and writer Néstor F. Marqués, a TVE contributor and author of several successful books focused on the subject at hand, will give an immersive talk on Ancient Rome.

The University of La Laguna, through the Vice-Rector's Office for Culture and University Outreach, will issue a certificate of attendance to all those who attend at least 80% of the class hours. Likewise, those who pass the independent work required of students will receive a certificate of attendance and achievement, which will count for an ECTS credit.

The Festival Internacional de Música de Cine de Tenerife, FIMUCITÉ, of worldwide renown in its genre, created and directed by composer and conductor Diego Navarro, will hold its nineteenth edition between the 7th of June and the 12th of July, with the support of the Cabildo de Tenerife and Turismo de Tenerife as its main sponsors, Gobierno de Canarias via Instituto Canario de Desarollo Cultural, the city councils of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and San Cristóbal de La Laguna, and the Organismo Autónomo de Actividades Musicales de La Laguna. FIMUCITÉ also thanks the involvement of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife and the Auditorio de Tenerife, and other public and private partners, including Mutua Tinerfeña, Distrito Centro-Ifara of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, Fundación DISA, Emmasa, Domingo Alonso, and AUDI as the official festival car, Fundación SGAE and Fundación CajaCanarias.
