Juan Ramón was born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where he completed his studies in Guitar Teaching and Choir Conducting. Since 1989, he has taught Choir at the Conservatorio Profesional de Música de Santa Cruz de Tenerife. He has trained teachers, and has participated as a juror in numerous Performance and Composition competitions.

Until 1992, he conducted the Coral Polifónica “Villa de la Orotava”. He was also the conductor for Orfeón “La Paz” in La Laguna, his leadership of which gave him ample recognition, performing in concerts both national and international, as well as winning several awards in coral competitions. In addition to being a frequent collaborator with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife, he has performed as Choirmaster in various Opera seasons in Tenerife, in the following performances: The Barber of Seville, Tosca, L´Italiana in Algeri, Cosí Fan Tutte, Rigoletto, La Fille du Regiment, Werther, Turandot, Carmen, La Bohème, The Little Sweep and Hänsel and Gretel. He is currently the Choirmaster for the Tenerife Film Choir, the official choir of the Festival Internacional de Música de Cine de Tenerife (FIMUCITE).

In April 2012, with Coro de Voces Blancas del Conservatorio Profesional de Música de Santa Cruz de Tenerife, he was awarded 1st prize in the Youth Category at the XLII Certamen Coral de Ejea de los Caballeros (Zaragoza). In 2014 he had a standout participation in the 60th Certamen de Internacional de Polifonía y Habaneras de Torrevieja. In 2016 he led the choral part of the soundtrack to Enrique Gato´s film, 'Capture the Flag', produced by Telecinco, as well as that of the film “Pasaje al Amanecer”, from director Andreu Castro, also composed by Diego Navarro, in 2017. Having been awarded 1st Prize and the Audience Award at the XLVIII edición del Certamen Coral de Ejea de los Caballeros, in April 2019, he will take part in the XXII edition of the Gran Premio Nacional de Canto Coral, soon to take place, also in Ejea de los Caballeros, and in which he will face off the winning choirs from the following competitions:
Certamen Nacional de Nanas y Villancicos de Rojales.
Certamen de la Canción Marinera de San Vicente de la Barquera.
Certamen de Canto Coral de Villanueva de la Serena.
Concurso Nacional de Corales 'José Antonio' de Burgos.
