Almost ten thousand guests enjoyed FIMUCITÉ 19's concerts and activities
Wednesday, 23 July 2025- The Festival Internacional de Música de Cine de Tenerife closed with a lengthy standing ovation from the audience, who applauded Lisa Gerrard, Diego Navarro and the Sinfónica de Tenerife, as well as members of the Tenerife Film Choir, the Coro Contemporáneo de Tenerife and the Coro EnArmonía on the stage of the Auditorio de Tenerife at the end of the "Gladiator in Concert" concerts.
The Festival Internacional de Música de Cine de Tenerife (FIMUCITÉ), created and directed by composer and conductor Diego Navarro, closed ihis historic edition on July 12th, consolidating its position as one of the world's leading events for music for film and audiovisual productions. With nearly 40 days of programming, from June 7th to July 12th, the festival offered a broad program of concerts, open-air cinema, master classes, and other parallel activities that attracted both local and international audiences.
‘Tarantino Unchained. Volume 2’, the opening concert dedicated to the music of Quentin Tarantino’s films, featuring the Pop Culture Band and guest soloist Cristina Ramos, was held outdoors for the first time with free admission, bringing over 3,000 people to Plaza de la Candelaria in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
The Teatro Leal in La Laguna hosted the acclaimed concert "Cinema e Paradiso," a journey through the greatest hits of Italian cinema, in collaboration with the Roma Film Music Festival, and featuring soloists from the Orchestra Italiana del Cinema, the Orquesta Filarmónica de Tenerife, and a performance by renowned bandoneonist Héctor Ulises Passarella, original soloist on the soundtrack of "Il Postino (The Postman)." After selling out weeks in advance, 500 people were able to enjoy this historic recital, which culminated in the participation of composer Pino Donaggio, who gifted the audience with an improvised performance after receiving the Fimucité Award in recognition of his career.
In addition, a total of 3,200 people applauded the live-to-picture "Gladiator in Concert" concerts held in a sold-out capacity at the Auditorio de Tenerife. Under the baton of Diego Navarro, the audience attended the screening of the legendary film while the Sinfónica de Tenerife, the Tenerife Film Choir (conducted by Juan Ramón Vinagre), the Coro Contemporáneo de Tenerife (conducted by Esther Wagenaar), and the Coro EnArmonía Choir (conducted by Miriam Luz Fumero Morales y Wagenaar), with the stellar participation of Lisa Gerrard, co-author and soloist of the "Gladiator" soundtrack, performed the soundtrack in sync with the film's images, dialogue, and sound effects. An absolutely spectacular experience, it garnered the longest standing ovations in the festival's nineteen-year history. The Australian composer and artist was moved to receive the Fimucité Prize and dedicated a few words to the soundtrack's co-author, Hans Zimmer.
The FIMUCITÉ program was rounded out with more free concerts, featuring the Banda Municipal de Santa Cruz de Tenerife, conducted by Juan Antonio Domínguez Martín, and a percussion group from the Conservatorio Profesional de Santa Cruz de Tenerife, conducted by Emilio Díaz, at Plaza del Principe, Espacio Cultural CajaCanarias and Cine Frontera on the island of El Hierro. These concerts, along with the summer film season, which once again took place outdoors in the Plaza de Residencial Anaga, brought music and cinema to different corners, promoting accessible culture.
In addition, over 200 people participated in the conferences, keynote addresses, discussions, and screenings of the FIMUCITÉ Film Scoring Academy, with the participation of festival director Diego Navarro and guests such as Lisa Gerrard, Marco Patrignani, director of the Roma Film Music Festival, prestigious Italian film music critic Massimo Privitera, celebrated Hollywood film music producer Robert Townson, composer Luis Ivars and popular archaeologist and expert Néstor F. Marqués, among others. This attractive program, also with free registration, was conceived as a university extension course for the University of La Laguna.
FIMUCITÉ has significantly boosted the cultural and economic life of the Canary Islands, promoting Tenerife's international presence and opening new audiences to quality cultural events. Following the success of its nineteenth edition, the Festival reaffirms its commitment to continuing to bring film music to all audiences and strengthening Tenerife's international presence as a cultural capital.
