Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife
The Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife, founded in 1935 as the Orquesta de Cámara de Canarias and supported by the Island Council, is a Spanish musical institution of great prestige, recognised for its quality, innovative trajectory and its role as a cultural reference point for Tenerife at local and international level. For more than 85 years, it has counted with conductors of the stature of Santiago Sabina, Armando Alfonso, Edmon Colomer, the renowned Víctor Pablo Pérez (currently honorary conductor), Lü Jia and Michal Nesterowicz, in addition to the principal conductor of Antonio Méndez.
Its programme covers a wide musical spectrum, from symphonic concerts to socio-cultural initiatives, including didactic concerts and collaborations with social inclusion organisations. Its active participation in Canarian festivals such as the International Music Festival of the Canary Islands, FIMUCITÉ and Canarias Jazz & Más, as well as in the Tenerife Opera, underlines its cultural commitment. With more than sixty performances a year and an outstanding discography with international recognition, the orchestra has toured successfully and collaborated with world-renowned soloists and conductors.
The Tenerife Symphony Orchestra has maintained an intrinsic and fundamental relationship with the Tenerife International Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ) since its creation. The Tenerife Symphony Orchestra has been a pioneer in educational concerts and has a long tradition of popular concerts that have attracted thousands of spectators. Its recordings on labels such as Auvidis and Deutsche Grammophon have been acclaimed, and in 1996 it received the Premio Ondas. Throughout its history, it has worked with leading conductors such as Jesús López Cobos and Vasily Petrenko, and soloists of the stature of Plácido Domingo and Krystian Zimerman.
As an active member of the Spanish Association of Symphony Orchestras (AEOS) and the Network of Organisers of Educational and Social Concerts (ROCE), the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra continues to be a cultural pillar and musical ambassador for the island, bringing its artistic excellence to diverse stages and audiences.
