Banda Municipal de Música de Santa Cruz de Tenerife
The Municipal Band of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has its origins in a motion of 1902, formalising itself with the creation of an annexed music academy and making its concert debut in 1903. Throughout its long history, the band has been recognised by institutions such as the town councils of Güímar and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and was awarded the "Añavingo" prize in Arafo in 1999. A significant milestone was its cultural exchange with the Banda Municipal de Valencia in 2003, coinciding with the centenary of both groups, including a performance at the Palau de la Música and a concert in Lliria.
The band was congratulated on its centenary by the Casino de Tenerife and was awarded the 2003 Miguel Castillo Music Prize by the Güímar Town Council. In 2004, it gave a series of concerts in Bilbao on the occasion of its centenary and received the Gold Medal of the Town Hall of Arafo. It is worth mentioning its participation as the closing band in the Festival Internacional de Bandas de Música Ciudad de Valencia in 2004 and 2005, being the only one in the history of the festival to do so consecutively. In the same year, 2004, the band took its music to Uruguay and Argentina, giving concerts in several cities.
Over the years, the Municipal Band has had the collaboration of prestigious soloists such as Benito Cabrera, Kepa Junkera, Víctor Batista, Ernesto Chuliá and Javier Laso. And it has been conducted by internationally renowned guest maestros such as Armando Blanquer, Jan Van der Roost, Johan de Meij and Franco Cesarino, who premiered some of their works in the band during conducting courses.
