The Festival Internacional de Música de Cine de Tenerife (FIMUCITÉ), the world's oldest event of its kind, founded and directed by composer and conductor Diego Navarro, will feature Lisa Gerrard, co-composer with Hans Zimmer of the soundtrack to the film Gladiator, who will take to the stage at the Auditorio de Tenerife to perform the iconic song "Now We Are Free" and the rest of the film's solos with her heavenly voice.
As part of its 19th edition, FIMUCITÉ will offer two performances of Gladiator in Concert on July 11th and 12th. This major live-to-picture production features the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife and the Tenerife Film Choir performing the music of Hans Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard live while Ridley Scott's five-time Oscar-winning film is projected on the big screen as part of its 25th anniversary.
In association with CineConcerts, Gladiator in Concert promises a unique and immersive experience, a must-see for film and music lovers alike. Legendary scenes from Gladiator will be projected on the big screen, transporting audiences to the majestic world of the Roman Empire to relive the film's most exciting and intense moments, while the epic melodies that accompany the battles and the destiny of the hero played by Russell Crowe are played live.
Tickets for both performances of Gladiator in Concert, which will be conducted by Diego Navarro at the Auditorio de Tenerife, are now on sale at the box office and online.
Born in Melbourne, Australia, Lisa Gerrard won the Golden Globe in 2001 for the soundtrack to Ridley Scott's film, shared with German-born composer Hans Zimmer, becoming the first woman to receive the award in this category. Leader of the group Dead Can Dance, founded in the early 1980s, she has collaborated on other soundtracks as a composer and vocalist, in titles such as Denis Villeneuve's Dune and Dune: Part 2, Whale Rider (winning Best Original Music at the New Zealand Film and TV Awards), The Insider, Man on Fire, and Black Hawk Down, performing the song "Gortoz A Ran - J'Attends" alongside singer Denez Prigent.
With exceptional talent and a unique vocal style, Lisa Gerrard has established herself as one of the world's most acclaimed film composers. Her presence at FIMUCITÉ, performing the iconic theme "Now We Are Free," will close the 19th edition of the festival with a bang. This edition is dedicated to the great soundtracks associated with Italy's history, culture, and traditions, as well as to its brilliant filmmakers and composers, such as Ennio Morricone (1928–2020), who composed more than 500 soundtracks, including "The Mission" and "Cinema Paradiso"; Nino Rota (1911–1979), best known for his collaborations with Federico Fellini, which produced the scores for "La Dolce Vita" and "Amarcord," and who composed the music for Francis Ford Coppola's "The Godfather"; and Nicola Piovani (1946–), Oscar winner for "Life Is Beautiful."
The 19th edition of the Festival Internacional de Música de Cine de Tenerife, FIMUCITÉ, has the support of the Cabildo de Tenerife and Turismo de Tenerife as its main sponsors, Gobierno de Canarias via Promotur Turismo de Canarias and the Instituto Canario de Desarollo Cultural, the city councils of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and San Cristóbal de La Laguna, and the Organismo Autónomo de Actividades Musicales de La Laguna.
