The Festival Internacional de Música de Cine de Tenerife (FIMUCITÉ) opened its seventeenth edition this weekend with an electrifying concert by the Pop Culture Band at Teatro Guimerá in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which sold out completely and saw the audience dancing and singing along to the beat of the most famous and cherished songs from superhero movies.

Titled "Guardianes del Rock", the show included songs such as 'Immigrant Song' (Led Zeppelin), 'Thunderstruck' (AC/DC), '99 Luftballons' (Nena), 'A Little Less Conversation' (Elvis Presley) or 'I Want You Back' (The Jackson 5), which have been part of the soundtracks of films such as 'Thor 3: Ragnarok', 'Iron Man', 'Deadpool 2', 'Watchmen', 'Shazam! The Fury of the Gods' or 'Guardians of the Galaxy. Vol. 1'. A program that got the attendees on their feet, also moved by the interpretation of pieces such as 'Kiss From a Rose' (Seal), which was played in 'Batman Forever'; Michael Bublé's version of the classic Spider-Man theme; or 'Bring me to Life' (Evanescence), from 'Daredevil', performed by soloists Patricio González, Carlos Ortega and guest star Cristina Ramos, among others.

Meanwhile, the public also enjoyed the outdoor screenings that were held from Friday to Sunday at Parque García Sanabria through the FIMUCITÉ summer film season, with a program of five films that included film adaptations of 'Dick Tracy', 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse' and 'Rocketeer'; as well as two Indian-produced action films, 'Krack' and 'Action Jackson'. A free, fun experience, which included cotufas (popcorn), water and loungers until full capacity was reached, with the support of Distrito Centro - Ifara del Ayuntamiento de Santa Cruz.

At the same time, the exhibition 'Pacheco & Azpiri, in Memory of Two Greats', hosted at Sala de Arte Los Lavaderos in the capital of Tenerife, received its first visitors. This exhibition dedicated to two of the most outstanding Spanish comic authors, Carlos Pacheco and Alfonso Azpiri, will remain open until July 23rd

The concert program will continue with two original proposals that will be held at Teatro Leal in La Laguna on Friday 7th and Saturday 8th July: 'Electronic Penderecki: The Shared Universe of David Lynch and Stanley Kubrick' and 'Jazzdalamenti: A Jazz Tribute to Angelo Badalamenti '.

‘Electronic Penderecki’ will feature, on stage, a chamber group made up of solo musicians from the prestigious Sinfonietta Cracovia orchestra, which made its successful debut at FIMUCITÉ last year, as well as the special participation of band Juno Reactor. This production will pay homage to Polish composer and conductor Krzysztof Penderecki, famous for his recognizable compositional style in his atonal works, some of which have been part of the soundtracks of horror film classics such as 'The Shining' or 'The Exorcist'; as well as Angelo Badalamenti, whose career was marked by the creative tandem he formed with the great director David Lynch, which resulted in legendary scores such as 'Twin Peaks', 'Blue Velvet' or 'Mulholland Drive'. The concert is co-financed with funds of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Cultural Promotion Fund of the Republic of Poland.

The tribute to Badalamenti, who died at the end of 2022, will continue on Saturday at the 'Jazzdalamenti' concert, a fascinating journey through the composer's work in a Big Band-style musical treatment. The prestigious composer Joseph LoDuca, a close relative and friend of the maestro and an accomplished jazz guitarist, has taken charge of the exceptional arrangements and will participate in this concert, performed by the Big Band de Canarias, under the musical direction of prestigious saxophonist Kike Perdomo and with the participation of singer Esther Ovejero.

Video Game Music
On Sunday, July 9th, the concert 'Heroes del píxel' will take place at the Paraninfo de la Universidad de La Laguna, in which the music written for video games by Danish composer Jesper Kyd, famous for his works for sagas such as 'Hitman', 'Assassin's Creed' or 'Borderlands', will take centre stage. The composer will visit the Festival and attend the concert, which will be performed by the Joven Orquesta Sinfónica de Fimucité, made up of students from the Conservatorio Profesional de Música de Santa Cruz de Tenerife and the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Canarias, directed by José Antonio Cubas, and with the participation, for the first time, of the Coro Polifónico de la Universidad de La Laguna. Soprano Carmen Acosta, closely linked to the educational project headed by the FIMUCITÉ Youth Orchestra, will also perform at this concert.
