- All-time movie classics, from ‘El Cid’ to ‘Gladiator’, ‘Braveheart’ or ‘Jurassic Park’, will ring out at the Teatro Guimerá, as performed by the Joven Orquesta Fimucité.
After its postponement given the red alert announced by the Dirección General de Seguridad y Emergencias del Gobierno de Canarias due to the metereological situation, the concert ‘Big Screen Memories’ at the XVI Festival Internacional de Música de Cine de Tenerife (FIMUCITÉ), will finally take place this Sunday, the 2nd of October, at 6pm, at the Teatro Guimerá de Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
The Joven Orquesta Fimucité, made up of students at the Conservatorio Profesional de Música de Santa Cruz de Tenerife and the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Canarias, will, in this concert, offer a trip through all-time film music classics, from ‘El Cid’, by Miklos Rozsa; to ‘Gladiator’, by Hans Zimmer; ‘Braveheart’, by James Horner or ‘Jurassic Park’, by John Williams. As conducted by José Antonio Cubas, we will also hear pieces by the guests at this year's FIMUCITÉ, such as ‘Rocky IV’, by Vince DiCola, or Marcin Przybylowicz and P.T. Adamczyk's music for videogame ‘The Witcher 3’, to name but a few.
In this concert the Honorary FIMUCITÉ – Antón García Abril Award will be given to Wendy Carlos, creator of the soundtracks for ‘Tron’ (1982), by Steven Lisberger, as well as ‘A Clockwork Orange’ (1971) or ‘The Shining’ (1980), both directed by Stanley Kubrick. Purificación Dávila, delegate councillor in Human Resources, Equality and Sexual Affective Diversity for the Ayuntamiento de Santa Cruz de Tenerife, will hand over this award, which will be collected by Víctor Díaz Noda, in representation of Chrysallis, Asociación de familias de Infancia y Juventud Trans. Elsewhere, the mayor of the Tenerife capital, José Manuel Bermúdez, will award the FIMUCITÉ award for Educational Merit, the recipient of which will be announced during the event.
FIMUCINEMA
The awards ceremony and screening of a selection of nominated shorts at FIMUCINEMA, the Competition Section of the Festival, in which original music composed expressly for fictional feature films, documentaries, short films and videogames, will be the perfect ending to the current edition of FIMUCITÉ on Tuesday, the 4th of October, at 7pm, at Espacio La Granja.
The 16th Edition of the Festival Internacional de Música de Cine de Tenerife (FIMUCITÉ), the oldest of its kind in Europe, and of worldwide importance in its field, as directed by renowned composer and conductor Diego Navarro, is sponsored by Cabildo de Tenerife, Gobierno de Canarias, Ayuntamiento de Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Ayuntamiento de San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Auditorio de Tenerife y Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife, Teleférico del Teide, with the support of Fundación Disa, Emmasa, Fundación SGAE -via the Consejo Territorial de SGAE in Canary Islands-, Fundación “la Caixa” via CaixaBank, and the collaboration of Domingo Alonso Group and AUDI as the official Festival car.
