The thrilling score of the horror movie of the year will be first performed live in FIMUCITÉ.
The music from the film will be performed at the festival’s Closing Gala, a concert dedicated to the most well-known soundtracks from productions based on the works of best-selling author Stephen King.
The latest adaptation of Stephen King’s novel 'IT' hit cinema screens worldwide this Friday. Having grossed 117 million in its opening week, it is the highest-selling box office opener in the horror film genre. This story about a group of children and a monster that takes the form of a clown has also been a phenomenal hit in Spain, taking in over 2.6 million in box office sales.
Its unsettling soundtrack, which is the work of Benjamin Wallfisch, will be performed during the 11th Tenerife International Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ XI) that runs from September 22nd – 30th, 2017. In a project that has been created in honour of the prolific writer especially for FIMUCITÉ, the Tenerife composer Diego Navarro will be conducting music from the film ‘IT’ by Andy Muschietti during the concert ‘Stephen King’s Night Gallery’ on Saturday 30th September. The concert programme will also include the world premier of the soundtrack for the 1990s television mini-series adaptation of the novel ‘IT’. The award-winning composer of this music, Richard Bellis, will be a special guest of the festival and will also deliver a master class in the FIMUCITÉ Film Scoring Academy.
In total 16 pieces will be premiered in the concert ‘Stephen King’s Night Gallery’ performed for the Closing Gala of FIMUCITÉ XI. The festival is sponsored by the Cabildo de Tenerife, the Canary Islands Government, Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, and Arona City Council. The Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife and the Children’s Choir of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, with Juan Ramón Vinagre as Choir Master, will perform these works.
This journey through the most well-known soundtracks based on the works of Stephen King is completed with other key titles such as ‘Carrie’ (Pino Donaggio), ‘The Dead Zone’ (Michael Kamen), ‘The Green Mile’ and ‘Shawshank Redemption’ (Thomas Newman), and ‘Misery’ (Marc Shaiman). Homage will also be paid to the late composer Daniel Licht, author or several musical adaptations of works by Stephen King, including performances of his compositions for ‘Thinner’, ‘Children of the Corn 2: The Final Sacrifice’ and 'Children of the Corn 3: Urban Sacrifice’. The FIMUCITÉ – Antón García Abril Award will be bestowed to the late composer in recognition of his professional achievements.
In addition, the festival programme includes the works ‘Stand by Me’ (Jack Nietzsche / Ben E. King) from the film ‘Stand By Me’, and ‘The Host of Seraphim’ (Dead Can Dance) from ‘The Mist’, performed by Fran León (who has sung in renowned musicals such as "Jesus Christ Superstar" and "Evita") and Cristina Ramos (winner of “Spain’s Got Talent” 2016).
