Fimucité will pay tribute to the first renowned woman composer in Hollywood, Shirley Walker

The X Tenerife International Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ X) will bestow her the FIMUCITÉ-García Abril Award posthumously.

On Wednesday, September 28th, the concert 'A Tribute to Shirley Walker' will be held at the Guimerá Theater in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

The 10th Tenerife International Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ), which will be held from September 23rd to October 1st and sponsored by Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, the Canary Islands Government and Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, will give the FIMUCITÉ-García Abril Award posthumously to the composer and conductor Shirley Walker, considered to be the first woman who composed the music for a Hollywood big budget movie.

Throughout her career Walker mostly addressed horror, suspense and animation with works such as 'Batman: Mask of the Phantasm', 'Final Destination', 'Willard', 'Memoirs of an Invisible Man', or 'Batman: The Animated Series', all of those will be played in the first part of the tribute concert to be held on Wednesday, September 28th at Teatro Guimerá in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The rest of the programme will feature pieces with Walker’s undeniable legacy created by her prolific disciples Lolita Ritmanis, Michael McCuiston and Kristopher Carter, members of the Dynamics Music Partners. Many pieces, covering music from 'Ben 10: Alien Force', 'Batman: The Animated Series', 'Justice League', 'Superman: The Animated Series' and 'Young Titans', will be world premieres created especially for FIMUCITÉ.

José Toledo will be taking the baton in this exciting and emotional concert performed by the Symphonic Band from the Conservatory of Music of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Larry Rench, Shirley Walker’s main orchestrator and currently one of Hollywood’s most importants, has taken care of the program arrangements to be played by the wind section of the Symphonic Band. Rench will be in charge of the Symphonic Band for the performance of the suite from the movie 'Willard'.

Film Music lost composer Shirley Walker in late 2006, who passed away at 61 years old. She wrote scores for films such as 'Ghoulies' (1984), '2013. Escape from L.A' (1996), 'Turbulence' (1997), or 'Black Christmas' (2006), as well as for TV shows, among which it is worth mentioning her compositions for animated series such as 'Batman Beyond' and 'Batman: The Animated Series', with which she won two Emmy Awards.

Walker also standed out as an orchestrator and conductor, with collaborations with composers such as Danny Elfman ('Edward Scissorhands', 'Dick Tracy') and Hans Zimmer ('Black Rain', 'Days of Thunder').
