The Antonio Lecuona Auditorium at the Conservatorio de Santa Cruz de Tenerife will host the concert “Campeones de la Gran Pantalla” (Champions of the Silver Screen), performed by the FIMUCITÉ Symphonic Youth Orchestra. There will also be an event led by the North American composer; “Vince DiCola: Artistic Transformations”.
These concerts will also be attended by autistic students from various special schools, thanks to collaboration with the association APANATE.
The 13th edition of the Tenerife International Film Music Festival will take place between the 20th and 29th September.
Now in its 13th year, the Tenerife International Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ) will offer two morning concerts for schools as part of its education programme. The Antonio Lecuona Auditorium at the Conservatorio de Santa Cruz de Tenerife will host both events. On Thursday 26th September, FIMUCITÉ Symphonic Youth Orchestra will perform “Campeones de la Gran Pantalla” (Champions of the Silver Screen), and on Friday 27th the North American composer Vince DiCola will present his project “Vince DiCola: Artistic Transformations”. These events are part of the FIMUCITÉ Film Scoring Academy which aims to promote knowledge and passion for film music amongst young people. The events will also be attended by autistic students from various specialist schools, thanks to collaboration with the Canary Islands association for autism, APANATE (Asociación Canaria del Trastorno del Espectro del Autismo).
“Champions of the Silver Screen” will be screened for the general public on Sunday 29th September in the Auditorio de Tenerife “Adán Martín”, therefore this additional screening will allow school students, accompanied by their teachers, to also enjoy the piece. The Tenerife Symphonic Youth Orchestra includes students from the Conservatorio Profesional de Música de Santa Cruz de Tenerife and the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Canarias, and is directed by José Antonio Cubas. They will perform a popular repertoire linked to the theme of sport in film, including all-time favourite soundtracks such as Oscar-winning ‘Chariots of Fire' (Vangelis), ‘Rocky’ (Bill Conti) and ‘Hoosiers’ (Jerry Goldsmith).
A group of talented musicians from Krakow will also participate as part of the international exchange agreement between musicians in the Fimucité youth orchestras, and the Krakow Film Music Festival (FMF).
In “Vince DiCola: Artistic Transformations”, the composer will use a synthesiser to interpret the feature films ‘‘Rocky IV’ and ‘The Transformers: The Movie’, alongside the video game ‘Angry Birds: Transformers’. Both concerts will begin at 10.30pm.
In collaboration with APANATE on the issue of inclusivity, FIMUCITÉ will not only offer the chance for students with autism to attend the concerts, but will also call on the help of volunteers with autism to help with the running of the festival, handing out leaflets and manning the merchandise stands.
In addition, this year FIMUCITÉ will run two events through the “Escuela del Espectador” of the Auditorio de Tenerife, a project which offers free talks and workshops that help audiences to better understand performances. The first of these events will take place on Wednesday 25th November at 6pm and is entitled “Mis Terrores favoritos” (“My Favourite Fears"). This event will be led by the film music specialist Dan Goldwasser and will involve participation from Christopher Young and Harry Manfredini. The second event will take place on Thursday 26th, also at 6pm, this time focusing on ‘Dracula by Bram Stoker’. Once again led by Dan Goldwasser, it will be attended by Diego Navarro and the record producer Robert Townson.
FIMUCITÉ 13, which is directed by renowned Spanish composer and conductor Diego Navarro, will run from September 20th – 29th with the support and sponsorship of the Cabildo de Tenerife, the Canary Islands Government, Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, Audi Canarias, the Teleférico del Teide, and the collaboration of SGAE – the Spanish General Society of Authors and Publishers, amongst others.
