Coro Polifónico Universitario of La Laguna

Ensembles | Fimucité 2018

An initiative from a group of students of different faculties led to the creation of Coro Polifónico de la Universidad de La Laguna in 1983. Their admirable collection of awards in competitions both national and international (Torrevieja, Madrid, Avilés, Basque Country, Slovakia, Hungary) and their versatile performances owe a lot to the members' constant work and the well-renowned teachings of the directors who have been in charge in its over thirty years' existence.

The Coro Polifónico de la Universidad de La Laguna has been a regular collaborator of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife, has co-organized the Encuentro Coral Ciudad de La Laguna in various of its editions, has had a significative presence in many seasons of Opera and Zarzuela in Tenerife, pioneered the Concierto Extraordinario de Navidad organized by Autoridad Portuaria de Santa Cruz de Tenerife, as well as recording a outstanding discography with notable cover versions and the recovery of the contemporary musical heritage of the Canary Islands. They have also performed in the premieres of plays composed by Rafael Estévez, Armando Alfonso, Enrique Guimerá or Luis Cobiella, among others.

This miscellaneous spectrum of artistic interests has led the Coro Polifónico de la Universidad de La Laguna to take on every style, every repertoire and various eras of musical literature, both in their symphonic and a capella forms. Over twenty national and international awards and an average of thirty annual concerts are testament to the group's talent. The Coro Polifónico de la Universidad de La Laguna has been able to adapt to the changes brought on by the pandemic without abandoning their choral development. To this end, we must give special mention to their most recent collaborations in the Festival Internacional de Música de Tenerife (FIMUCITÉ) in 2020 and 2021, in which they performed two solo concerts.
