Kike Perdomo

Kike studied Saxophone, Flute, Harmony, Arrangement, Composition and Improvisation at centres as diverse as: Conservatorio Superior de Música de S/C de Tenerife; Escuela de Jazz y Música Moderna de Luis Vecchio, and with private teachers such as Greg Lyons, Dave Schnitter, Greg Badolato, Eric Marienthal, Bill Evans (sax), Bennie Maupin, Chris Cheek, Will Vinson or Dick Oatts.

He received a grant from Berklee College of Music in 1989, and obtained his Advanced Degree in Jazz and Modern Music at ESMUC in Barcelona in 2009. Further to this, he taught Sax, Big Band and Musical Management at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Canarias from 2015 to 2020.

In the 90s, Kike moved to Madrid and performed throught clubs and festivals in Spain, becoming a regular performer at Café Central, Madrid, and jazz festivals like “Entre Olivos” Jaén, Festival Internacional de Jazz de Lugo, Festival de Jazz de Barcelona, Festival de Jazz de Lérida, Festival de Jazz de Madrid, Festival Internacional de Jazz de Málaga, Jimmy Glass in Valencia, Festival de Jazz de Lérida, Festival de Jazz de Canarias, Bogui Jazz and Café Berlín in Madrid, Filloa in La Coruña, Clavicémbalo in Lugo, La Puerta Falsa in Murcia, Eshavira in Granada, Asociación Contrabajo in Huesca, Bilbaina Jazz Club in Bilbao, Jamboree and Luz de Gas in Barcelona, etc. After this, Kike started performing internationally, as he did at Instituto Cervantes in New York, Rockwood Music Hall NY, Ibeam NY, Something Jazz Club NY, Smalls NY, Fat Cat NY, Elb Jazz Hamburg, Edds Café Maastricht, Moods Zurich, Swing&Sweet Bergen, etc.

His quest for versatility also took him onto the rock circuit, in which he toured with great Spanish artists such as Luz Casal (1989), Joaquín Sabina (1994 to 1997) or Miguel Ríos (1997), as well as collaborating with Sergio Dalma or Rosana.

All of Kike´s projects have taken him to perform in cities and countrries such as New York, Boston, Miami (USA), Buenos Aires, Mar del Plata, Rosario, Gualeguay (Argentina) , Montevideo (Uruguay), México D.F., Guadalajara, Puebla, Monterrey (Mexico), Santiago de Chile, Valparaíso (Chile), Köln, Berlin, Bonn, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Kiel, Kassel (Germany) ; Saltzburg (Austria), Bergen (Norway), Copenhagen (Denmark), Cartagena de Indias, Barranquilla (Colombia), Maastricht, Rotterdam, Amsterdam ( Holland), San José de Costa Rica, La Habana (Cuba), Santo Domingo, Guatemala, etc.

He has been an active member of numerous Canarian projects such as: JazzBorondón, Taburiente, Mbalax, Chiqui Pérez, Esther Ovejero, A.M Big Band, Carlos Sánchez, Baba Djembe, Luis Morera, Esther Ovejero, Adolfo Peña or Thomas Figueroa, all of whom for which he carried out the artistic production.

Nationally and internationally, he has recorded and/or played with musicians such as Bill Evans, Anthony Jackson, Richard Bona, Jim Beard, Chuck Loeb, Josh Dion, Bob Sands, Ari Hoening, Mark Egan, Karl Latham, Christian Lohr, Perico Sambeat, Chano Dominguez, Eric Marienthal, Nantha Kumar, Ismaila Sane, Dan Rochlis, Francis Posé, Yul Ballesteros, Torsten de Winkel, Chris Cheek, Joe Magnarelli, Caramelo, Michael Olivera, Audun Waage, Borja Barrueta, Martin Leiton, Javier Infante, Javier Colina, Jorge Pardo...

Since 1990, Kike has been the leader of his own band, with whom he has released 12 CDs to date, on which he has collaborated with as renowned as Bill Evans, Chano Domínguez, Chuck Loeb, Eric Marienthal, Soren Moren, George Dulin, Vince Cherico, Mark Lomano, Greg August, Jeroen Truyen and Joseph Lepore, among many more.

He founded the BIG BAND DE CANARIAS in 2008 and has been their bandleader ever since, recording 5 CDs and performing all over the archipielago, as well as at several of Spain´s most important Jazz festivals.

Additionally, he has been the sound engineer for all 14 editions of the Festival de Música de Cine de Tenerife (FIMUCITE) and has recorded the OST (Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife) playing the scores of films such as “The Matrix”, “Perfume”, “Oscar, El color del Destino”, “Iron Man” or “Spider-Man” as conducted by maestro Diego Navarro. These recordings have been transmitted by Antena 3, Televisión Canaria and Televisión Española.
