Route 66

In this year´s Festival, The Pop Culture Band will pay tribute to one of the best-loved and most enduring genres in the history of Cinema: the Road Movie. Although this genre is quintessentially American, it has also travelled along roads all over the world, giving us stories of travellers, heroes, villains and characters who, whether drifting or on the run, take us along for the ride, with stories filled with tension and excitement.

Preparing a musical journey through some of the biggest exponents of this genre, where all musical styles fit, be they Rock, Soul or Pop, for example, is a daring challenge, given the endless possibilities this manner of telling stories offers in the way of themes and even their own subgenres. The complexity of getting a setlist just right to wow the audience is a responsibility that has pushed the Festival´s house band to work tirelessly on this new show, which hits the road running with songs by Steppenwolf (Easy Rider), Charlie Sexton (Thelma & Louise), Nancy Sinatra (The Mexican), Elton John (Almost Famous) or Jefferson Airplane (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas).

Musical director and guitarist Gonzalo de Araoz will join forces with the other members of the Pop Culture Band, Francis Díaz on electric guitar, Javier Guerrero on drums, David González on keyboards, Nuria Herrero on percussion, Daniel Lukacs on bass, Elio Bignote on trumpet, Luis Cuan on saxophone, Cristo Delgado on trombone and amazing lead vocalists Héctor Quintero, Zuleyma Medina, Patricio González and Barbara Soltesova, to transform the Teatro Guimerá of Santa Cruz de Tenerife into a highway to great music.
