Coro Polifónico Universitario of La Laguna
The Coro Polifónico Universitario of La Laguna was founded by the University o La Laguna in 1983. It symbolises the reach of the university’s cultural activities beyond its classrooms. Its ability to deliver versatile performances and its numerous career successes, both at the national and international level, rest on the unwavering efforts of its members and the expertise of those who have been responsible for directing the choir.
Possessing a broad range of artistic interests, the Coro Polifónico Universitario of La Laguna tackles all styles, repertoires, and areas of musical literature, from symphonies to acapella. It regularly collaborates with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife and also FIMUCITÉ (Tenerife International Film Music Festival), co-runs the “Encuentro Coral Ciudad de La Laguna”, is a significant presence in the Zarzuela and Opera Season of Tenerife, is pioneer of the Extraordinary Christmas Concert of the Port Authority of Santa Cruz, and also stars in an impressive discography of music that serves as a reference point and recovers the musical heritage of contemporary polyphonic music in the Canary Islands.
The Coro Polifónico Universitario of La Laguna has performed under the baton of prestigious conductors, such as Vladimir Spivakov, Víctor Pablo Pérez, Edmon Colomer, Laszlo Helthay, Eric Ericsson, Antoni Ros Marbá, James Blair, Sabas Calvillo, Howard Williams , Oriol Martorell, Pierre Cao, Javier Corcuera ,Rinaldo Alessandrini , Lluis Vila, Robert King, Diego Navarro, Jordi Casas, and Jonathan Webb.
As a result of its diverse artistry, in the last three years the choir has regularly received public and critical acclaim when performing in innovative shows and concerts, such as ‘Siempre Broadway’, ‘Del frío al fuego’, ‘Entre el cielo y el suelo’, ‘Sacrum est’, ‘En cuerpo y alma’, ‘Fides sine tempore’ and ‘Horizonte’.
